Spring Clip Resolved
Submitted by Fugitive on 2/21/11 10:21 PM
The Spring Clip problem was also an issue for me. I discovered that the problem started with the Retaining Wire which would come off due to a defect in its design. Once the Retaining Wire is off then the Spring Clips would self destruct, the caliper would be displaced allowing the brake pad to fall out and so on. To resolve the issue, bend a slight hook at each end of the Retaining Wire so that they cannot pop off once reinstalled. Since I modified my the Retaining Wire I have had no problem. I have gone at least 15,000 miles since then.
UFP DB-42 spring clip defect.

These spring clips have a factory defect which Trail Rite Trailers and the manufacturer (UFP) have known about and yet have never recalled the product. My 2003 Trail Rite trailer has been a problem which Trail Rite tried to fix, but would not replace their defective product. Trail Rite blamed the problem on my load equalizer hitch which was installed by the trailer sellers service department. Trail Rite itself had no equalizer hitch which they could suggest for me to use. Trail Rite said they could put a device on to the trailer which they claimed might help resolve the hitch binding, but Trail Rite would not give a warranty to back up their product. Trial Rite said they could not resolve the hitch binding problems because it was an "inherent problem of an equalizer hitch for which no fix existed", only their trailer modification which may or may not help relieve some of hitch binding. They said their trailer was not designed to work with a equalizer hitch. They had no suggestion on how to resolve hitch problem nor did they resolve the spring clip defect problem. UFP was replacing the spring clips and some of the other brake parts which wore out as a result of the spring clips breaking. UFP stopped replacing parts as soon as their warranty expired. UFP has never corrected their spring clip defect and I now have to keep buying their defective spring clips and the other parts which wear out after the spring clips break.
