Square Tube Straight Trailer Axle, 2" x 2" Tubing-2500lb. Galvanized

This square tube Hot-Dip Galvanized straight (no drop) trailer axle is designed for use with many different types of trailers. Includes Spindle Nuts, Washers and Cotter Pins. Spring Centering Plates are also Included and can be adjusted to desired spring center. No brake flange attached.

Selecting and Measuring you Axle

Determining the Hub Face Measurement:
A) If you are replacing an existing axle, determine the Hub Face to Hub Face Measurement required for your trailer. Measure the distance from the outside face of each hub.

B) If you are building a new axle, consider the space required for the wheel/tire combination to properly fit the trailer frame.

Hub Face: Distance between face of hub to face of other hub.
Spring Centers: Distance between center of springs and hangers.

Axle Terminology

Hub Face:
Is the distance from outside of hub mounting flange to outside of hub mounting flange, measured one-half way between top and bottom of hub. The hub face is also know as the mounting surface where the wheel studs are located.

Track:
Is the distance from tire centerline to tire centerline, measured one-half way between top and bottom of tire. A more precise measurment would be to measure the distance from one hub face to another.

Drop:
Is the distance from centerline of spindle to bottom of the main axle tube.

Spring Center:
Is the distance between center of one spring to the center of the other.

Overhang:
Is the distance from center of spring to center of tire. Axle load rating decreases as overhang increases.

Spring Center Pads:
Are locating or centering pads that can be welded or left loose and are meant for the leaf springs to mount onto. Springs pads can be located at the top or bottom of the axle main beam. DO NOT drill holes in beam in lieu of using spring pads. This would set up stress concentration points, which will weaken the axle beam and allow water to enter the beam.

Hub Bolt Circle Nomenclature:
example: 5 on 4 1/2" means 5 lug bolts or studs on a 4 1/2" diameter circle. Other patterns are defined in the same manner.

Mounting your Axle

When replacing your trailer axle, determine how it was previously mounted. Under slung mounts have the spring mounted below the axle and over slung mounts have the spring mounted on top (also called reverse axle). Spring seats or centering pads can be mounted over or under the axle. Some axles have "camber" or road set, so there will be a bow in the axle until weight is applied. Cambered axles should be mounted with the center bow on top.
